Barium Meal

A light diet should be taken for 2 days before the procedure.

A laxative is to be taken at 22:00 the evening before the procedure.

Patients to be nil by mouth from 22:00 the evening before the procedure.

Patients with diabetes should be first on the list.
Patients with Type 1 and Type 2 Insulin Treated Diabetes

Patient to omit morning dose of insulin.

Record blood glucose levels.

If patients on a twice daily regime, patients take HALF morning dose with lunch. Then continue with usual regime.

If patients on four times daily regime, then usual insulin to be taken with lunch.

Resume usual diet and fluids.
Patients with Type 2 Diabetes - Tablets

Patient to omit morning dose of diabetes tablets.
-
Record blood glucose levels.
-
Patients to take usual diabetes tablets following the procedure.

Resume usual diet and fluids.
