Emergencies
Refer the following cases to hospital without delay!
- Patient with severe hypoglycaemia who has not responded to conventional treatment or glucagons
- Patient with Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes with symptoms

Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes with severe symptoms (e.g. blood sugar >20mmoll/l, thirst, polyuria, weight loss, dehydration, confusion, seizures and drowsiness or coma)

Child diagnosed with diabetes

Existing diagnosis of diabetes accompanied by severe dehydration (HONK) be very vigilant for this with older people

Rapidly deteriorating foot ulcer (e.g. new pain, worsening redness and or swelling)

Rapid change or worsening of sight (e.g. retinal detachment or haemorrhage)
