Bronchoscopy

Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

  1.  Patient to omit morning dose of tablets. 
  2.  Record blood glucose levels. 
  3. Pre-med given.
  4. Usual diet and fluids to be resumed no earlier than 2 hours following the procedure.
  5.  Usual diabetes tablets to be taken as prescribed, once diet and fluids resumed.

Patients with Type 1 Diabetes/Type 2 Diabetes on Insulin

  1. Patient to omit morning dose of quick-acting insulin. 
  2. Record blood glucose levels 
  3. Pre-med given. 
  4. If patient on two injections per day then HALF their usual morning dose of insulin can be taken with lunch, when eating is resumed after the procedure. Continue with usual regimen.
  5. If patients on four times daily insulin regime, then usual dose of insulin to be taken before lunch, when eating is resumed after the procedure
  6. Usual diet and fluids to be resumed no earlier than two hours following the procedure.
